New Yorkers Adorned and Transformed

Friday, March 3, 7:30 PM – 3D SLIDE SHOW
Winter 2000
American Museum of Natural History – Linder Theater
Use the 77th St. entrance. Bear left past the big canoe and then right, through to the end of the hall of molluscs.

Michael Anstendig will present a two-part photographic study of some unique statements of identity and individuality. His photographs from the International Tattoo Convention include tattoo artists at work, competition at the convention, and a showcase of tattoos on backs, legs and arms. In contrast to the tattoo convention, Mike will show an outing to the Coney Island Mermaid Parade. These photographs feature a range of costumed revelers indulging the opportunity to temporarily transform themselves. The presentation coincides with the AMNH exhibition Body Art – Marks of Identity, on view now in the new Fourth Floor Gallery.

Michael Anstendig is a professional publicist specializing in corporate identity management. He used a 1950’s Stereo Realist camera for these projects. The show will be projected in 3D using a vintage TDC projector. Polarizing glasses will be provided.

The meeting will include some announcements, and our usual informal show-and-tell when members share their own work (in any format) in viewers or on bulletin boards around the room.

Free and open to the public.
