Patterns and Structures in Nature's Small Spaces presented by Roger Richmond
Roger Richmond will share the architectural inspiration found in close-up 3D views of nature. He has presented numerous 3D slide shows on art, architecture, and design expression, most recently for the National Stereoscopic Association meeting and for Stereo New England. Drawing on 14 years of stereo photography experience, he now specializes in macro 3D photography in nature. This slide show was developed for use in his studio classes to demonstrate architectural design concepts. It features macro images from Africa, South America, and the eastern United States. He will use an RBT stereo projector for the presentation. Polarized glasses will be provided.
Mr. Richmond is a registered architect and the national competition designer of Maine's Vietnam Veterans Memorial. He is Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of Maine. In addition to his teaching, he is a design consultant and partner in SpaceTherapy, a design/behavior post-occupancy analysis firm. He was the first architect commissioned by NASA to design zero and artificial gravity living environments on space stations and planetary fly-by missions. His work and research for NASA in Hostile Environmental Design continued at the University of Pennsylvania while studying conceptual architectural design theory with Louis Kahn. Mr. Richmond lives in South Freeport, Maine with his wife Beverly, and twin teenagers, Peter and Molly.
The Response to 9/11
