Jim Harp and Sheldon Aronowitz welcome fellow New York Stereoscopic Society members to join them at the annual Mermaid Parade in Coney Island on Saturday June 21.

Sheldon writes:

"The parade participants ready themselves and pose for pictures on the street running from Surf Ave. to the Boardwalk (West 10th St. - The Cyclone on your left and the amusement rides on your right) There is a $5 charge per camera to enter this area before the start of the parade. The parade kicks off at 2PM, at which time the participants enter the boardwalk and proceed west, cut back to Surf Ave. and proceed East, past the reviewing stand, back to the starting point on 10th Street. The best vantage point for thre parade itself is on the boardwalk... Now is the time to shoot - as there are plans to make major changes in Coney Island."

Jim is a little more succinct: "This is one of the greatest 3D photo-ops known to man. Get there early."

There's more information about the parade here http://www.coneyisland.com/mermaid.shtml

If you don't know Sheldon or Jim, look for the guys with the stereo cameras and introduce yourself. Mermaid pictures always liven up our open projection events.
